00:46:57 Aleta Williams: In high school, I told my counselor I wanted to be math teacher. He told me I would never make any money and to go into engineering since I was good at math. Got an electrical engineer degree that I never used.
00:47:34 Aleta Williams: I allowed the counselor to steer my ship…
00:48:52 Ellen Guthrie: I had a similar issue – really enjoyed my computer science in HS, but my teacher told me that women don’t usually succeed as software engineers and “why don’t you keep doing your volunteer work?” Ended up miserable in non-profits for so long before I finally came into tech and became a data analyst. HS teachers have so much sway!!
