Collect Feedback
Survey (10) family members, friends, and/or colleagues. Pick a diverse group of people whom you trust to be candid with you. Send an email and ask them to list out what they think your top three strengths and opportunity areas are. Use the template below as a suggestion.
If you don’t hear back after 3 days, send a reminder confirming receipt, and make sure to collect all feedback within one week.
Gather your feedback in one document, and review it carefully.
- Do you see any commonalities in the answers?
- What stands out?
Please note, asking for feedback on opportunity areas can be difficult. Make sure you reach out to people you trust because you’re putting yourself out there, and that is never easy.
Also, feedback is a gift! You can take it or leave it, and remember that feedback from others does not define who you are.
EMAIL TEMPLATE FOR INFORMAL 360 FEEDBACK
Dear __________,
I’m a member of the Work Bigger Community, which is a career development platform that helps individuals do work they love without burning out.
The work we’re doing consists of personal assessments to help me hone in on my strengths and opportunities as a leader. When answering the questions below, please be candid and give relevant examples when possible. If we haven’t spent time together in a work capacity, please try to use the most relevant examples you can to illustrate your feedback to me.
Because I trust you, I’m reaching out to ask the following:
(1) What do you come to me for that you don’t go to others for? List two to three things.
(2) Where do you see me offering substantial value to others?
(3) What is one thing I should stop doing to be more effective as a leader?
(4) What is one thing I should start doing to be more effective as a leader?
(5) What is one thing that I should continue to do as a leader?
Please feel comfortable to be open and honest. It’s the best way for me to benefit from this exercise, which will help me to both grow as a leader and as a person.
Please send your feedback to me by __________.
Self Assessment Worksheet
Feedback is very important when identifying our strengths and opportunities, but so is relying on ourselves – our intuition and our own self assessment.
In this section, you’ll answer a series of questions that will help you identify your strengths and opportunities.
- You should spend about 45 minutes to 1 hour filling out this section. Grab a cup of tea and get comfortable! This is an opportunity to reflect on who you are and what you want.
- Be thoughtful and don’t rush through the questions, but also don’t overthink it. Write what comes to mind. Done is better than perfect!
- If you get stuck or have a question, share with the group.
- Save this worksheet in an accessible place as you’ll have to access it again soon.
Focus Your Strengths & Opportunities
You’ve now spent some time exploring your strengths and opportunities by gathering feedback, taking assessments and reflecting on your own views and beliefs. It’s now time to bring all of your findings together.
This final section will help guide the work you pursue, will help you focus our personal brand, and will also help you identify how you can level up as a leader.
